Evidence-Based Decision-Making and Theory Practice Gap
Discuss How The Model Can Help Guide Your Implementation Of Your Project.
Explain the Model
The healthcare industry has witnessed several transformations, and dynamics such as
patient safety and quality which are driving these changes. According to Tucker et al. (2021),
nurses and other healthcare providers are shifting away from traditional models that rely on
colleagues' opinions. The growth of evidence-based practice (EBP) has equipped
practitioners with the skills necessary to optimize patients' outcomes. In the presented clinical
problem, effectiveness of the current interventions used to treat attention deficit disorder
(ADD) among adolescent patients is low. Underlying issues such as elevated depression
among the affected population negatively affect clinical outcomes. Without implementing
alternative interventions, other complications will likely emerge, and the patients’ conditions
will worsen. Therefore, it is important to prioritize EBP to develop a viable solution for the
problem. The most appropriate framework would be the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-
Based Practice Model (JHNEBP).
The framework was developed in 2004 by The Johns Hopkins University School of
Nursing in collaboration with nurses from the Johns Hopkins Hospital (Tucker et al., 2021).
In ensuring that the latest research findings were integrated into patient care, nursing
administrators in these institutions required a model that would address the EBP needs of
healthcare professionals. The resulting framework considered the three integral domains:
nursing practice, education, and research. JHNEBP advocates for the use of available
evidence when making clinical decisions within the three aspects. Parameters within the tool
reflect the “PET” process, an abbreviation that represents practice questions, evidence, and
translation (Tucker et al., 2021). Based on these steps, the team solving the clinical problem
is required first to clarify the research question. Later, it collects research findings from
