,Topics to be covered :
Alkaloids
Natural occurance, general structural features, isolation and their physiological action,
Hoffman exhaustive methylation, Emdes modification, structure elucidation, synthesis
and medicinal importance of hygrine, Nicotine, Quinone and Morphine
Terpenoid
Occurance, classification, isoprene rules , Elucidation of structure and synthesis of citral
and alpha Terpenoid
What are alkaloids ??
Alkaloids are cyclic organ compound containing nitrogen in negative state of oxidation
with limited distribution among living organisms.
Alkaloids means alkali like.
The alkaloids are generally occur as salt of various plant acids. Ex : acetic acid.
, # Alkaloids are important compounds of plant origin.
In 1806, Sertürner reported the first isolation of morphine from opium.
(Morphine)
The first synthesised alkaloid is coniine by Landenberg.
(Coniine)
In 1820, Prof. Pelletier has isolated alkaloids quinine and caffeine.
(Quinine)
