1. What’s constitution?
It’s a body of rules & laws according to which a country is governed
It decides the limitation on their power
2. Why constitution?:
Constitution allow coordination & assurance: The first function is to provide a basic set of rules &
allow minimal coordination among the society’s members
o Any group needs publicly known and enforceable basic rules to achieve minimal coordination.
Specification of decision making powers
Limitation on government’s power
Fulfil society’s aspirations & goals
3. What are the functions of a constitution
The second function is to specify who has decision-making powers & how the gov’ll be formed
The 3rd function is to set some limits on what a gov can impose to its citizens/ To limit what a gov
can do to its citizens. These limits are so basic that the gov can never invade/cross them
The 4th function is to allow gov to fulfil the society’s aspirations & create a just society
4. How the constitution is formed?
Demand: Indians wanted a rulebook to govern the country after independence
Constituent assembly: the constituent assembly was formed for writing the constitution
Dr. BR Ambedkar’s role: Dr. BR was the chairman of the drafting committee & is called the “
father of the Indian constitution”
Meetings& debates: the members discussed & debated many times on various topics like justice,
equality, liberty, etc
Public suggestion: people gave suggestions for its improvement
Final constitution: Indian constitution was adopted on 26 /11/1949 & was enforced on 26/01/1950
5. What’s objective resolution?
It was a guiding plan for making the Indian constitution presented by Jawaharlal Nehru in the
constituent assembly in December 1946
It said that India is a free, sovereign republic.
It will be a Union of British provinces, princely states, and willing regions.
Union territories will manage their own affairs except Union powers.
All powers and the Constitution come from the people.
People will get justice, equality, and basic freedoms within law.
Minorities and weaker groups will get proper protection.
India’s unity and full control over land, sea, and air will be protected.
India will work for world peace and human welfare.
6. Burrowed constitution (why/how Indian constitution is a burrowed constitution)
Indian constitution was adopted on 26/11/1949 & adopted 26/01/1950

We only burrowed the provision that’re suitable to Indians’ needs
