QUESTION 1
1.1 Define research in your own words
Research is a systematic and organized process of collecting, analyzing, and
interpreting information to answer questions, solve problems, or generate new
knowledge. It involves careful planning, use of appropriate methods, and critical
evaluation of findings to ensure accuracy and reliability.
1.2 Two characteristics of good research
1. Systematic:
Good research follows a structured and logical process. Each step, from identifying
the problem to drawing conclusions, is clearly planned and executed to ensure
reliable results.
2. Objective:
Research must be free from personal bias. The researcher should rely on evidence
and facts rather than opinions to ensure that findings are credible and trustworthy.
1.3 Difference between qualitative and quantitative research
Qualitative research focuses on understanding meanings, experiences, and
concepts. It uses non-numerical data such as interviews, observations, and texts. It is
exploratory and seeks depth of understanding.
Quantitative research, on the other hand, deals with numerical data and statistical
analysis. It aims to measure variables and test hypotheses using structured tools
such as surveys and experiments.
