Older adults at risk – more meds, dexterity decreased, chronic illness
Education regarding food allergies
Emergency treatment for severe allergic response – how to communicate with
staff in restaurants, how to ask the right questions, how to read food labels.
Epipen: keep on person at all times, after use need to go to hosp. because effect of
allergen lasts longer than epipen.
Staying safe e.g.: accidental ingestion, avoiding
Assessing for food allergies – ask, skin test, history
Define food allergy vs. food intolerance – food allergy is life threatening (peanuts, soy,
eggs) food intolerance – gluten, milk (lactose)
