Introduction
In this report, I will be addressing the key issues that FreshChoice is currently facing in
relation to its workforce and management practices. The purpose of this report is to
recommend appropriate strategies that will improve employee motivation and support the
business in achieving its objectives, including reaching over 90% customer satisfaction,
reducing labour turnover below 30% and becoming a top five supermarket in the UK by
2030.
Employee motivation is extremely important in a retail business such as FreshChoice, as
employees are directly involved in customer service and daily operations. If staff are
demotivated, this can lead to poor performance, low productivity and an increase in
customer complaints. Currently, FreshChoice is experiencing similar issues, including poor
customer service and stock availability, which suggests that employees are not performing
effectively. Therefore, it is essential for FreshChoice to improve its management approach in
order to motivate employees and improve overall business performance.
Business Information
FreshChoice is a UK supermarket chain that has been operating for 10 years and competes
with major retailers such as Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s. The business has expanded
across the UK and aims to increase its market share. It employs only full-time staff and offers
wages above the national minimum, along with benefits such as employee discounts and
share schemes.
However, FreshChoice is currently facing several challenges. Labour turnover is 45%, which
is significantly higher than the industry average, and employee satisfaction is only 66%.
Customer feedback shows issues with service and product availability, suggesting internal
management problems. The business is also struggling with recruitment and training, which
is affecting its ability to operate efficiently and achieve its objectives.
Issue 1: Ineffective Training System
One major issue at FreshChoice is its ineffective training system. The business relies heavily
on an online training platform, but many stores do not have the necessary technology for
employees to complete the training. As a result, employees are expected to complete
training at home, which reduces engagement and consistency. In addition, there is no proper
