Insulin Type 1 & 2
Moniter: hypoglycemia (s/s- tachycardia, diaphoresis, shakiness, headache,
weakness), blood glucose
Rotate injection sites= prevention of lipohypertrophy
Administer glucose tablets of snacks (simple carbs) if conscious; glucagon or
IV dextrose for unconscious patients
CLEAR before cloudy when mixing
MATCH with meals
Rapid (Lispro, aspart) Onset: 5-15 mins
Peak: 30mins
Duration: 3-5 hrs
* Give with food
Short (Regular) Onset: 30-40 mins
Peak: 90-120

Duration: 6-8 hrs
*May be given through IV
Intermediate (NPH) Onset: 1-4
