· First-line medication treatment: Fluticasone

Sinusitis · S/S: facial pressure, nasal congestion, reduced
sense of smell
· First-line medication treatment: symptomatic relief
with decongestants and nasal corticosteroids (viral)

, Bacterial (Strep) o Sudden onset, cough absent, pain with
swallowing, fever, palatal petechiae, white plaques
dx and treatment for pharyngitis · Diagnostic tests is a rapid strep test or throat
culture
· First-line treatment: Penicillin V Potassium or
Amoxicillin
Epistaxis · Anterior Bleed: Kiesselbach Plexus, less severe
· Posterior Bleed: more serious
· Treatment: sit up and lean forward slightly, hold
pressure for 10-15 minutes, potential nasal packing
and topical vasoconstrictors
Epiglottitis · Can obstruct the airway, refer to ED ASAP, prevent
by giving Hib vaccine
· Presentation: high fever, sore throat, drooling,
difficulty breathing, stridor, and tripod position
· Aphthous Stomatitis o Canker sores, occurs in the mouth, painful
o Treatment: topical corticosteroids, mouth rinse
· Chronic Ulcerative Stomatitis o Rare condition characterized by recurrent painful
ulcers, can persist for a long time and are resistant
to standard treatment
o Management typically involves systemic
medications such as Hydroxychloroquine
(Plaquenil)
Geographical Tongue: proceeded by spicy or hot foods, benign
Leukoplakia: oral hair, can't be scrapped, seen in
HIV/immunocompromised patients, can be a sign of
oral cancer, remove irritants like tobacco use
