DC Circuits (Unit 1)
Fundamentals of Core Engineering (BS-201)
1. Two resistors of 4 Ω and 6 Ω are connected in parallel. If the total current is 30 A, find
the current through each resistor. [18 A; 12 A]
2. Four resistors are in parallel. The currents in the first three resistors are 4 mA, 5 mA
and 6 mA respectively. The voltage drop across the fourth resistor is 200 volts. The
total power dissipated is 5 watts. Determine the values of the resistances of the branches
and the total resistance. [50 k Ω, 40 k Ω, 33.33 k Ω, 20 k Ω, 8 k Ω]
3. A circuit consists of three resistors of 3 Ω, 4 Ω and 6 Ω in parallel and a fourth resistor
of 4 Ω in series. A battery of e.m.f. 12 V and internal resistance 6 Ω is connected across
the circuit. Find the total current in the circuit and terminal voltage across the battery.
[1.059 A, 5.65 V]
4. Using Kirchhoff’s laws, find the current in various resistors in the circuit shown in
Fig.1. [6.574 A, 3.611 A ,10.185 A]

5. Calculate the current in 20 Ω resistor in Fig. 2. [26.67 mA]
