What can be done to stop or slow cultural eutrophication?
Give this one a try later!
Restore riparian zones/ reduce agricultural fertilizers/fix sewer systems/
reduce phosphates in lawn fertilizers/ reduce phosphate in detergents
Define the biosphere
,Give this one a try later!
the area of the Earth that sustains life
Life that exists on Earth
1. energy dependent (SUN)
2. self-sustaining
3. mostly closed to outside influences
4. balanced/steady state
5. system
What are trickle down systems and what role do bacteria play in the process?

eats away at the things that we want taken away/ It goes through this
process multiple times before being put into bodies of water.
What is the elemental composition of the living (C,H,O) and the nonliving?
Give this one a try later!
CHOPKNS Ca, Fe, Mg, and Na K, make up 96% of all living matter
Flag of Lebanon example! How can the physical environment be influenced by the
living community in an ecosystem and visa versa?
Give this one a try later!
, Lebanon is known for its oil exports and is known for its lack of importance
placed on the physical environment.
Overtime, the amount of phosphorus in the hydrosphere is increasing/ the amount of
phosphorus in the lithosphere is decreasing and the amount of phosphorus is staying
the same in the biosphere, why?
Give this one a try later!
We are removing phosphate by mining phosphate rich rock and using it for
things like fertilizer that then runoffs into water. We are removing
phosphate from the lithosphere and moving it to the hydrosphere. The
amount of phosphate in the biosphere always stays the same.
All food webs are organized by trophic levels! Understand these, as well as be able
to determine which trophic level organisms would be at based on knowing what they
get energy from (what they eat)?
Give this one a try later!
Trophic levels are the number of steps away from the original source of
energy.
The higher the trophic level the larger amount of biomass is needed to get
energy, since energy is lost every step of the food chain.
Recall biosphere II, why it didn't work out, was it a success or a failure.... or both? What
is the take home message?
