The Lincolnshire Reservoir and Strategic Water Resource Management
1. Understanding the 2026 Pre-Release Booklet
The 2026 booklet focuses on the UK's massive water supply and demand crisis,
culminating in a proposal to build a multi-billion-pound reservoir in
Lincolnshire.
• The Clean Copy Rule: You cannot bring your annotated booklet into the exam.
A clean copy will be provided for you on exam day. The 12 weeks of preparation
are purely to help you learn the material inside out.
2. The 12-Week Preparation Timeline
• Weeks 1-2 (Initial Familiarization): Read the booklet cover-to-cover.
Understand the core conflict: the UK faces a projected 4 billion litre daily water
deficit by 2050, and large-scale solutions are needed.
• Weeks 3-4 (Detailed Analysis): Analyse the three sections. Figure 1 covers the
UK water balance (the north gets 2,500 mm of rain, the south gets just 200 mm).
Figure 2 covers usage (140 litres per person daily) and conservation methods.
Figure 3 outlines the Lincolnshire Reservoir proposal.
• Weeks 5-8 (Synthesize Information): Connect the figures. For example, link
the 24% increase in river pollution (Figure 1) to the desperate need for a new
clean water reservoir (Figure 3).
• Weeks 9-12 (Practice Questions): Use past paper formats to time your 9-mark
decision-making questions to exactly 20 minutes.
