A. Understands the concept of chronology
Give this one a try later!
Chronology is the sequence in which events take place.
EX: In American history:
1. First the colonists fought a war called the Revolutionary War so that
America could become a free country.
2. Then they fought another war called the War of 1812.
3. Years later the Civil War was fought
4. After that World War I and after that World War II.
These wars happened in chronological order.
They happened in the order from first to last, or from the farthest in the
past to the most recent.
If we arrange things chronologically, it means we arrange them from the
first to the last.

D. Understands the characteristics of indigenous peoples in North America before
European exploration: Plains
Give this one a try later!
1. Language families in this area were the Algonquian-Wakashan, the Aztec-
Tanoan, and the Hokan-Siouan. A universal sign language developed
among the perpetually wandering Native Americans.
2. Tribes: Two distinct types of Native Americans there, sedentary and
nomadic.
- The sedentary tribes were farmers and lived in permanent villages of
dome-shaped earth lodges surrounded by earthen walls. They raised corn,
squash, and beans.
- The foot nomads moved about with their goods on dog-drawn travois
and eked out a precarious existence by hunting the vast herds of buffalo
(bison).
3. Transportation: The horse revolutionized the life of the Plains Indians.
- Many Native Americans left their villages and joined the nomads.
Mounted and armed with bow and arrow, they ranged the grasslands
hunting buffalo.
(The other Native Americans remained farmers)
4. Lifestyle: Living on horseback and in the portable tepee, they preserved
food by pounding and drying lean meat and made their clothes from
buffalo hides and deerskins.
5. Features: system of coup, rites of fasting in quest of a vision, warrior
clans, bead and feather art work, and decorated hides.

A. Understands how human needs are met
Give this one a try later!
, Basic Human Needs
- Food / Water
- Clothing
- Shelter
Needs Can Be Met Through
- Self-producing
- Purchasing
Trading
Examples:
"What need would this corn help us meet?"
(Food)
(Explain that a person could grow the corn for themselves and if they do,
then they are self-producing).
"What are some other things I might self-produce?" (Answers will vary, but
may include other produce grown in a garden, making articles of clothing,
building a house, etc.)
(Display a shirt and explain that while a person may not be able to grow
corn, they might be able to sew. Then they could trade their shirt for some
corn. If you have something I need, I may trade something that I have that I
don't need for something you have that I do need. For example: If I grow
corn in my garden, I may have extra corn)
