2.1.1 Design for Environment (DfE) may be described as a
clear consideration necessary during the design of goods,
services, and processes. It includes practices like designing for
recycling and disassembly (Evan & Collier, 2017:93). DfE is a
significant part of producing a good, process or service
because it is basically meant to reduce the impact that such
good, process or service may have on human health and the
environment in general. There are different ways through which
a company can apply DfE since all companies have vary in the
nature, style and purpose of their goods, services or processes.
However, the following are examples of how a company can
apply DfE:
• Making product packaging eco-friendly
Product packaging is something that has a powerful impact on
customers/clients. According to NielsenIQ (2015), making the
packaging of a product eco-friendly is an excellent way for a
company to make the good impression on their
customers/clients because the eco-friendly or sustainable
nature of a packaging normally influence the purchasing
decision of the customers/clients.
