Week5A Week 5 Psychopathology for Social Work Walden University Culture sensitivity increases the probability of a therapeutic relationship by enhancing trust and improving commination between clinicians and patients (Branch, 2000). Culture refers to systems of knowledge, concepts, rules, and practices that are learned and transmitted across generations (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Also American Psychiatric Association (2013) states, culture includes language, religion and spirituality, family structures, life-cycle stages, ceremonial rituals, and customs, as well as moral and legal systems. Cultures are open, dynamic systems that undergo continuous change over time; in the contemporary world, most individuals and groups are exposed to multiple cultures, which they use to fashion their own identities and make sense of experience (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Psychopathology for Social Work

Walden University

Culture sensitivity increases the probability of a therapeutic relationship by enhancing

trust and improving commination between clinicians and patients (Branch, 2000). Culture

refers to systems of knowledge, concepts, rules, and practices that are learned and transmitted

across generations (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Also American Psychiatric

Association (2013) states, culture includes language, religion and spirituality, family structures,

life-cycle stages, ceremonial rituals, and customs, as well as moral and legal systems. Cultures

are open, dynamic systems that undergo continuous change over time; in the contemporary

world, most individuals and groups are exposed to multiple cultures, which they use to fashion

their own identities and make sense of experience (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).

Culturally responsive care increases service utilization and reduces premature

termination (Diaz, E., Anez, L., Silva, M., Paris, M. & Davidson, L., 2017).The Cultural

Formulation Interview (CFI) is a set of 16 questions that clinicians may use to obtain

information during a mental health assessment about the impact of culture on key aspects of an

individual’s clinical presentation and care (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). According

to the American Psychiatric Association (2013), the CFI focuses on the individual’s experience

and the social contexts of the clinical problem. The CFI is helpful when there is difficulty in

judging illness severity or impairment, difficulty in diagnostic assessment owing to significant

differences in the cultural, religious, or socioeconomic backgrounds of clinician and the

individual, disagreement between the individual and clinician on the course of care and limited

engagement in and adherence to treatment by the individual (American Psychiatric Association,

2013).

, When speaking with my partner, there was consideration of the schoolwork, my

partners’ life outside of school and her boundaries as well as mine. Speaking further with my

partner, I learned who is multi cultured with Latino and African-American descendants. I am an

African

American woman. I do believe there is Indian heritage and Caucasian on my maternal’s

grandmother side. Culture does not mean only the color of your skin, but it’s everything around

you and what you stand for. When engaging my Partner, I tried to incorporate the evidence

based practice, Engaging Learning Environment (ELE) model. It was a work place support

model, but I thought it could be utilized in a school working environment as well. The study was

proposed to encourage middle managers’ workplace learning, by using modern pedagogical

approaches (Lonkaa, K., Ketonen, E., Mrttinen, K., & Talvo, M, 2019). The new Finnish

national curriculum emphasizes the need for modern broad-based expertise that includes

working life skills, as well

as entrepreneurship and ICT skills (Lonka, 2018). The intention is to educate a new generation

of citizens who are fluent in learning such skills, while helping the existing generation on how to

deal with complex and ill-defined problems that confront them on a daily basis (Lonka, K.,

Ketonen, E., Mrttinen, K., & Talvo, M, 2019).

My partner and I agreed that school on the graduate level is similar to another job,

because of the time consumption, responsibility and dedication put into your school work. In

life and in the social work field there is continuous learning present. My partner and I stayed

connected through the resources provided by our school such as the collaborative feature on

blackboard as well as modern technology such as texts, emails and zoom. Today the ideas of

networked, systemic and distributed learning have become increasingly popular, since many

complex problems call for collaborative efforts and smart tools (Trilling & Fadel, 2009).

Workplace and School place learning is a complex and multi-dimensional phenomenon
