Brandon’s Case Study
SOCW: 6200 Human Behavior and the Social Environment I
Case Background
Brandon’s case presented the trauma he endured and the aftermath of the trauma. Brandon was
abused by his biological father from the age of 4 to 6. Brandon disclosed the abuse to his mother;
and mom immediately called the cops (Brocksen,2013). Dad was arrested and has been in prison
since. Since the abuse Brandon’s behavior has changed negatively. Brandon has been physically
aggressive towards other. He has difficulty following the rules at home and at school; and he has
also used inappropriate sexual behaviors towards his female classmates (Brocksen,2013).
Brandon was initially in therapy but stopped due to mom not seeing any change in his behavior.
Brandon started attending trauma informed treatment; that helps him address his trauma and
behavior. Brandon was diagnosed with (PTSD) Post traumatic stress disorder and was put on a
low dosage of antidepressant to help him cope (Brocksen,2013). Mom and Brandon both
participated in therapy and it worked well for both. They were able to complete the trauma
therapy in 8 months and transition to home and community-based treatment for his ongoing
behaviors (Brocksen,2013).

Brandon’s Case on Micro Level
Micro skills are used when working with an individual. This is finding resources for the targeted
issues with a client. For instance, with Brandon; the targeted issues were the physical aggression,
inappropriate sexual behavior, and his hard time following the rules. The targeted resources that
, can be put in place for Brandon is the therapy that was already mentioned, Finding Brandon a
group to join that will help him deal with his anger such as karate, boxing or just anything to help
relieve the stress and condense the physical aggression towards others. When dealing with
Brandon’s inappropriate sexual behavior; he could be put in touch with a sexual abuse counselor,
so he can be informed about the importance of not portraying the negative behaviors. Also, to
teach him new ways to deal with the behaviors in a way that is not harming to others.
Brandon’s Case on Mezzo Level
Mezzo skills are used to work with small groups. The type of groups is support groups ranging
from people who have been diagnosed with cancer, any other diseases, suicide and so forth. They
establish treatment recommendations for young people who have serious emotional and behavior
problems that live in group homes. They do educational groups like birth control as well.
Reading Brandon’s case on this level I would encourage mom to have Brandon put in a sexual
education course in school if it is offered; if not I would try to find one in the community for him
to attend. Also, a support group for kids his age who have been a victim of sexual abuse.it will
help Brandon understand what he is going through and he is not alone.
Brandon’s case on Macro Level
Skills on Macro levels are used to work in larger systems including organizations and
communities. Working on the Macro level you are not working alone you are working alongside
others in the community. Getting Brandon in touch with the school’s social worker. It would be
a great way to help Brandon in school since he is having a hard time. In assessing Brandon’s
case, he can be helped on each level with new resources, new strategies and coping skills. With
the appropriate services provided for Brandon he will be able to be successful in working
through his behaviors.
