RATIONAL NUMBERS
Comprehensive Study Notes | Class 5 - 8
LEVEL 1: BASICS
1. Definition & Identification
A Rational Number is any number that can be expressed as a fraction p/q.
• p (Numerator) and q (Denominator) are integers.
• q cannot be zero (q ≠ 0).
Form: p / q (Example: 2/3, -7/9, 5, 0)
LEVEL 2: OPERATIONS
2. Arithmetic Formulas
Addition & Subtraction
Use LCM to make denominators the same:
(a/b) ± (c/d) = (ad ± bc) / bd
Multiplication & Division
Multiply: (a/b) × (c/d) = (ac) / (bd)
Divide: (a/b) ÷ (c/d) = (a/b) × (d/c)
