Now, more than ever, the fastest-growing sector of the global economy has been the healthcare
industry due to technological advancements. As noted, continuous and disruptive innovation is shifting
how healthcare services are delivered and consumed (Sounderajah et al., 2021). Since nurses serve at
the interface of care delivery, they are responsible for accepting and implementing these improvements
to improve clients’ outcomes. This paper analyzes disruptive innovations that have enhanced healthcare
delivery, the roles of the WGU Nursing Programs Conceptual Model nurse innovators, and big data and
new technologies that have addressed the call to innovate. It also outlines a disruptive innovation that
brings new healthcare delivery methods; it clearly shows that the plan aligns with the organizational
developments.
Scholarly Examples of Disruptive Innovations that Improved Healthcare
Disruptive healthcare innovation is a significant driver of change, improving service delivery
and patient outcomes. One area where the concept of disruptive innovation has wholly revolutionized
and from where profound effects are already being witnessed is telehealth. Due to telehealth
implementation, most face-to-face consultations have been minimized, especially in remote areas;
populations with scarce access to healthcare services can be evaluated and get medical
recommendations remotely, successfully addressing the problem of continuity of care. It is most useful
for patients with chronic diseases; it helps patients come in contact with specialists without traveling
much. Literature reviews have shown that telehealth can improve patient satisfaction and lower costs
and hospital readmission rates (Lang, 2022).

However, wearable health technology is another startling example of a disruptive innovation.
Smartwatches and other wearable health monitoring equipment help patients to observe their vital
statistics, movements, and states in real-time. Wearable health technology has allowed patients to be
more involved in their management and, at the same time, has given caregivers all-important
information on the patient’s condition to enhance decision-making. Adeghe et al. (2024) state that these
devices assist in identifying diseases in advance but are most helpful in determining cardiovascular
data, including heart rate variability. The process is scientific and patient and results in improved
patient care.
How the Nurse Innovator Demonstrates a Role in Conceptual Model
The roles of disruptive innovation in the WGU Nursing Programs Conceptual Model are Nurse
as Scientist, Nurse as Detective, and Nurse as Manager of the Healing Environment. This paper
explores an MSN-prepared nurse innovator in the role of Nurse as Scientist, which identifies an
opportunity and capacity to support innovation in practice and process change by engaging a vast set of
evidence-based practices, research, and data. For example, a nurse innovator could explore a new
telehealth program by measuring the program’s outcomes for patients, providers’ satisfaction, and the
cost. It allows the rigorously evaluated results, which the nurse can submit arguing to extend or
improve the technology's application. In this capacity, the nurse plays the role of both the implementer
of change and the changer themselves, guaranteeing that change operates efficiently and is evidence-
based (Zhou et al., 2021).
The role separator in this context is the role of the Nurse as Detective. The MSN-prepared nurse
innovator must look at clinical results, define issues, and seek evidence-based resolutions. For example,
a nurse may play the role of a detective in handling patient records to determine which factors
