The Complete Subject
In a sentence, there are two main parts:
1. The subject -- who or what
2. The predicate -- an action or state that relates to the subject
The subject will always be a noun, a group of words including a noun, or a word
standing in place of a noun.
The noun is called the simple subject.
The noun with a determiner, article, or adjectives is called the complete subject.
Examples
The small boy played.
is the simple subject of the sentence.
is the complete subject of the sentence.
The old, dead leaves November.
is the simple subject of the sentence.
