The Guardian of the Glass City
The air in Sector 7 was different today—heavy with the scent of ozone and recycled
rain. Elara stood on the transparent balcony, her boots clicking softly against the
reinforced glass that separated her world from the "Wilds" below. For generations, the
inhabitants of Aethelgard had lived in these shimmering towers, believing the earth
beneath was a toxic wasteland.
The hologram on her wrist flickered, projecting a map of the ancient forests. In school,
they were taught that nature was a chaotic enemy, yet as she looked down, she saw
something the history books hadn't mentioned: a single, vibrant green sprout pushing
through a crack in the rusted metal of the old world. It wasn't grey, and it certainly didn't
look like an enemy.
Elara adjusted her breathing mask. "If the books are wrong about the sprout," she
whispered to the empty air, "what else have they lied about?"
