This assignment has been carefully put together to give you more than just answers; it walks you through the reasoning behind each one, so you actually understand the material rather than just memorising it. Every solution has been verified for accuracy, with academic references that hold up to scrutiny. Whether you're working through it the night before a submission or using it to reinforce your understanding over time, it's built to be genuinely useful. The explanations are clear without being condescending, and the structure follows what examiners actually look for not just what sounds impressive. If you put in the effort to engage with it properly, distinction-level results are well within reach.

Questions 1–10: Multiple Choice Questions

Question 1

The act of collusion also constitutes plagiarism. Is this statement true or false?

Answer: a. True

Collusion occurs when two or more students work together on an assessment intended to be
completed individually, then submit the same or substantially similar work as if it were inde-
pendently produced. Because the submitted work does not represent the student’s own inde-
pendent effort, and because it misrepresents the source of the ideas and writing, it meets the
definition of plagiarism (Louw and Venter, 2024). UNISA’s academic integrity policy treats
collusion as a subset of plagiarism and applies the same disciplinary consequences.

Question 2

When I paraphrase in my assignment or exam for MNG4801, I must NOT:

Answer: b. 1, 2, 3

The three practices that are prohibited when paraphrasing are:

• Option 1: Changing only one or two words using synonyms and then referencing it as
one’s own work. This is a surface-level alteration and does not constitute genuine para-
phrasing.
• Option 2: Placing quotation marks around text and referencing it. Quotation marks are
reserved for exact reproductions of very short, specific phrases (no longer than three to
four words) that cannot be rewritten. Using quotation marks on a paraphrased passage is
contradictory.
• Option 3: Using only the idea from the text without referencing it. Even when the idea
is substantially reworded, the original source must still be acknowledged.

Option 4 (summarising the text in one’s own words and referencing it) is the correct approach
to paraphrasing and is therefore not prohibited.

Question 3

What is the correct reference format for the book prescribed for MNG4801 according to the
Harvard referencing style?

Answer: b. Louw, L. and Venter, P. (2024) Strategic Management: Towards sustainable
strategies in South Africa. Cape Town: Oxford University Press.

The Harvard referencing style requires the author’s surname followed by initials, the year in
parentheses, the full italicised title (including subtitle), place of publication, and publisher.
Option (b) is the only entry that includes the full subtitle, uses initials rather than full first
names, and places the year in parentheses directly after the authors’ names.

Question 4

What is the correct reference format for a journal article according to the Harvard referencing
style?

Answer: d. Foss, N.J. 2020. ‘Behavioral Strategy and the COVID-19 disruption’, Journal of
Management, 8(46): [pages].

In Harvard style, the article title is placed in single inverted commas (not italicised), while the
journal name is italicised. The year follows the author’s name directly with a full stop (not in
parentheses as in some APA variants), and the volume and issue number follow the journal
name. Option (d) correctly applies all of these conventions.

Question 5

Which one is the correct in-text reference format according to the Harvard referencing style?

Answer: c. According to Le Roux and Pretorius (2016:2), sustainability should be embedded
into the “organisation’s strategy fabric” and value creation process as it plays a vital part in
ensuring the organisation’s future resilience and performance.

The CEMS Harvard style requires that when two authors are cited, both surnames are con-
nected by the word “and” (not an ampersand & in running text). The page number follows
the year after a colon inside the parentheses. Option (c) correctly uses “Le Roux and Pretorius
(2016:2)” with the page number and the exact short direct quote in double quotation marks.
