Autonomy
A person’s right to make their own decisions
● Respecting a patient’s values & beliefs
● Remembering that patients hold the right to make their own decisions
● Make all choices in their care
● Act in their best interest
Beneficence
“Benefit” = good
● Always doing what is best for the patient & acting with compassion
● Always choosing the good for each patient
Fidelity
Fidelity = faithful
● Remaining loyal and faithful in actions & care
● Keeping the promise of safe, well-intentioned care
Accountability
Accountability = think & answer for my actions
● Taking responsibility for all actions
● Being accountable for errors or mistakes
Justice

“Just” = treat all the same
● Delivering equal care to all
Nonmaleficence
“Non” = none
“Mal” = bad
● Doing no harm
● Not inflicting any harm on any patient
● Intentional or unintentional
