three dimensions of cultural humility

2) Respectful communication. Work to eliminate assumptions about what is "normal" Learn directly
from your pt's-they are the experts on their culture and illness.
3) Collaborate partnerships. Build your pt. relationship on respect and mutually acceptable plans.
types of cognitive errors
- correct answer anchoring bias: locking in on feature in pts presentation too early
availability heuristic: overlooking differentials
confirmation bias:
diagnostic momentum: using previous diagnoses to explain sx (MI vx acid reflux)
framing effect:
representation error: failure to take prevalence into account when estimating probability of diagnosis
visceral bias: feeling towards pt that can lead to poor diagnostic decisions
acute pain
- correct answer normal response to stimulus that lasts less than 3-6 months, associated with acute
illness/injury
chronic pain
- correct answer lasts more than 6 months or one month beyond typical course
