Skull
The cranium(8) (neurocranium)
calvaria the roof frontal, occipital and two parietal bones
calvaria the skallcap, parietal, frontal occipital bone
face skeleton (vicerocarnium) supports the soft tissues of the face,
zygomatic (2) cheek bones
lacrimal the smallest bone of the face, the form part of the medial wall of the
orbit
nasal (2) two slender bones.
Inferior nasal conchae (2)
Palatine(2) forms the hard palate
Maxilla (2)
Vomer
Mandibular articulates with base of the cranium of temporamandibular joint
Sutures they are immovable, and fuse completely around the age of 20
The main sutures in adulthood:
Coronal suture frontal bone and two parietal bones
Sagittal suture both parietal bone
Lambdoid suture occopital and two parietal bone
Paranasal sinuses air-filled, conterbute to humidifying of the inspired air, and
reduce the weight of the skull.
Maxillary sinuses largest, thin walls which are often penerated
It drains into the nasal cavity of the hiatus semilunaris, underneath the frontal sinus
opening.
Superior border bony orbit
Inferior border maxillary alveolar bone
Medial border nasal cavity
Anterior border cheekbones
Frontal sinuses found under the forehead, drain into the frontonasal duct
Sphenoid sinuses found posteriorly, are large and irregular
Ethmoidal sinuses there are three ethmoidal sinuses;
Ethmoidal air cells may be grouped together, on each side of midline
Anterior hiatus semilunaris
Middle ethmoidal bulla
Posterior superior
