SECTION 1.0 DESIGN DOCUMENTATION
1.1 Audience
The game that is being created will be aimed specifically for children aged 8-12
years old as this is a simple and straightforward game with no explicit or complex
content in it that would confuse or affect children in a negative manner such as
swearing, politics or explicit content. The design and imagery of the game will be
simple but fun and visually pleasing for young children in order to get them
hooked on the game and like playing it.
1.2 Purpose
The game is made to be challenging yet entertaining for the young children to
play, they must navigate through a maze collecting items and avoiding enemies,
trying to find the way out to the next level. This maze game is made to encourage
skills such as problem solving and quick reflexes, these skills, the gameplay and
the design of the game should encourage the players to keep returning to replay
the game.
1.3 Client Requirements
The maze game shall have a simple yet challenging maze format that requires the
players to move about to find a way out with items found along the way to gain
points and hazards than can take away lives if the player is not careful. A time limit
will be introduced in later levels to add a further level of pressure on the player as
well as an increase in hazards to challenge the player.
1.4 Game Narrative
The player will control a pixelated character moving it through a maze collecting
items that count in a points system and avoiding hazards that can harm the
players character and if harmed enough times the game will restart, the same
outcome will happen if the time limit runs out in the later levels. The goal of the
game is to traverse through the maze, collecting as many coins as you can. The
type of gameplay will be 2D style that the character needs to collect items for a
higher score and avoid obstacles whilst under pressure with time. Once
completed a more difficult level will be available.
1.5 Legal and Ethical Considerations
