Circle of Willis – Complete Anatomy, Diagram & Clinical Significance Notes
The Circle of Willis (Circulus Arteriosus) is a hexagonal arterial network located at the base of the brain in the interpeduncular fossa. It is formed by the anterior cerebral arteries, internal carotid arteries, posterior communicating arteries, and posterior cerebral arteries. The anterior communicating artery connects the two anterior cerebral arteries, while the posterior communicating arteries link the internal carotid arteries with the posterior cerebral arteries. This structure plays a vital role in maintaining continuous blood supply to the brain by providing collateral circulation in case of arterial blockage.
