What is “Methods in Context”?
A question type (mainly in AQA Paper 1: Education).
You are given:
A research method (e.g. interviews, observations)
A context (usually education)
You must explain:
Strengths AND limitations of the method
Specifically applied to that context
Remember
You are NOT just evaluating the method—you must apply it to the context throughout.
What are examiners looking for?
To hit top band...
Accurate knowledge of the method
Strong, consistent application to context
Use of concepts (validity, reliability, etc.)
Developed explanations (PEEL structure)
Key Concepts to Use
Always try to include:
Validity – does it reflect real life?
Reliability – can it be repeated?
Representativeness
