The family Bunyaviridae is a large and diverse group of enveloped viruses, negative sense RNA
viruses with a global distribution.
They are primarily arboviruses (arthropod-borne),transmitted by vectors such as mosquitoes,
ticks and sandflies.
The family includes significant human pathogens such as the Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever
virus, which is associated with high morbidity and mortality, requiring Biosafety level 4(BSL-4)
containment.
