Tissues
Main Concepts
Tissue- Tissue is a group of cells which performs same function. Cells
make the tissue, tissues make organs, organs make organ system, and
organ systems make organism.
There are two types of tissues. Those are:
1. Plant Tissue- It is the tissue which is present in plants. Plant
tissues are of two types:
Meristematic- These are the tissue which perform the function of
growth in plants.
Permanent- These tissues are permanent and help in transport of
food and water and help in support of plant.
2. Animal Tissue- Animal tissues are the tissues which are present
in animals. They are of four types- epithelial, connective, muscular,
nervous.
10 Key Facts
Meristematic = Dividing cells (tips, sides, base of plants)
Parenchyma = Soft, stores food (packing tissue)
Collenchyma = Flexible support (under epidermis)
Sclerenchyma = Hard, dead cells (bark, veins)
Xylem = Water transport (upwards only)
Phloem = Food transport (both directions)
Epithelial = Covering/protection (skin, lining)
Connective = Support (blood, bone, cartilage)
Muscular = Movement (skeletal, smooth, cardiac)
Nervous = Control (brain, nerves)
