stood out to me
- Dentists were all so excited about what they were doing and eager
to persuade me to pursue dentistry-- and they succeeded!

vulnerable many patients feel at the dentist given the significance
that our smile holds

Why UMich? -
correct answer ✅- Early and vast clinical exposure: I am a hands on
learner, and I believe that interacting with patients starting our D1
year will make me as competent as I could possibly be upon
graduation; exposure to multiple specialties will allow me to
confidently determine what kind of career I hope to have
- Community outreach emphasis: I envision myself one day working
in a community based setting near where I attended school, and
spending 12 weeks during D4 year (2 weeks during D3 year) in
these outreach sights would allow me to begin forming these
relationships; in addition, this speaks to U Mich's commitment to
improving access to care for underserved individuals and families
throughout Michigan and beyond, and I would be honored to be
apart of such a vital regional resource

- Pathways program: During undergrad, I believed I thrived because
I had the freedom to tailor my courses to my interests-- often by
incorporating dentistry into projects for my neuroscience, sociology,
chemistry, or gerontology courses; I look forward to the
opportunity to complete a research project or extra courses in an
area that may later shape my career; I hope to someday explore
academic dentistry, and I believe that the Pathways program will set
me up for lifelong learning
- Mentorship and collaboration: Vertical integration in clinics
provides opportunities to collaborate with classmates and engage
in mentorship, which was one of the most rewarding aspects of my
time at Miami; opportunities for faculty mentorship in the clinic
and through our Pathways project
- Familiarity: Not only have I always felt connected to the state of
Michigan because my family and I spend our summers with my
cousins in Marcellus, but my cousin Lexi is in her D4 year at UMich;
she has been one of my biggest role models and mentors, not only
in my pursuit of dentis
