1: Input
These are the data and instructions given to the computer
They can come in the form of:
programs- set of instructions loaded into memory when
you run the program
Commands- given by the user
User responses
The most common input is the keyboard.
Keyboards come in many different forms:
Physical keyboard
Portable keyboard
Laser keyboard
Ergonomic keyboard
A qwerty keyboard is a full keyboard
Typing tutor is an app used to help better ones typing skills
Touch typing- when someone types with both hands
Benefits:
Speed, time, health, accuracy and decrease in fatigue
There are many built in shortcuts on a keyboard:
F1- Help
Esc- cancel choices
, Windows key, <E>- File Explorer
Windows key, <D>- Desktop
Another useful shortcut is the print screen key:
It takes a photo of everything that is displayed on the screen
at that moment
Screen capture is copied as an image to the clipboard
Clipboard: an area in memory where text and other objects
that have been copied are temporarily stored
Another common input device is the mouse:
A mouse is an interactive piece of hardware.
How does a mouse work?:
1. The mouse shines a light on the surface it is working on
2. Sensors detect the direction and speed the mouse is
being moved in
3. The movement of the mouse moves the pointer, which
is then represented on the screen for the user to see
Mouse actions:
Click- selects an option
Double-click- starts a program
Right-click- opens up a pop up menu
Drag- select and drag the object
Scroll- use the mouse wheel to scroll in long web pages or
documents
Keyboard and mouse combinations- pressing and holding
Shift, Alt and Ctrl can change the meaning of a mouse click
