Geography: Theory

,the composition and structure of the atmosphere:
the atmosphere is the layers of gas surrounding the earth.
Main gases: water vapour, oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen
and argon.
Importance:
 Used for respiration
 Used for photosynthesis
 Wind movement in the atmosphere takes heat from
near the equator to areas near the poles and visa versa,
which is needed for life on earth.
 Absorbs harmful UV radiations
The composition of Earth:
Gasses.
We get two main gas categories:
1. permanent:
Nitrogen (used for photosynthesis)
Oxygen: respiration
Argon: electrical appliances
2. Variable:
water vapour carbon dioxide
Liquids:
Found in the atmosphere in the form of water droplets in
clouds and rain.

, Solid particles:
dust, salt crystals, smoke particles, soot and volcanic ash.
Provides a solid surface for the water vapour to condense.
This is known as condensation nuclei.
The layers of the atmosphere:

Thermosphere
The outermost layer
Temp here is high- caused by oxygen and nitrogen absorbing
Radiations.
Ionosphere (lower sphere): consists of electricity
Exosphere (outer sphere): where satellites settle
Mesosphere
In this layer, the temperature decreases with height, making
it the coldest layer.
This layer contains meators, which prevents rocks and dust
from space to enter the lower layers

stratosphere
In this layer, the temperature increases with height.
The ozone layer lies here and it is used to filter out UV
radiations.

Troposphere
This is the layer where life exists and weather occurs.
The air is the densest in this layer.
