Strategies for Promoting Breastfeeding
WHO and UNICEF Strategies
The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF advocate for three
main strategies to enhance breastfeeding initiation and duration:
promotion, protection, and support.
Promotion involves highlighting the benefits of breastfeeding at
personal, community, and global levels, encouraging mothers to choose
breastfeeding over formula.
Protection focuses on ensuring breastfeeding can compete with
commercial interests, including legislation against misleading marketing
practices.
