Lesson Title: Elementary Keyboarding

Grade/Level/Setting: Grade 3
Prerequisite Skills/Prior Knowledge:
• Students should have a basic understanding of how to turn a computer on and off, use a mouse, and interact
with a keyboard.
• Basic Computer Terminology: Students should have a basic understanding of computer-related terms such as
hardware, software, and browser. Assessment strategy: Quiz or class discussion to review key terms.
• Online Navigation: Students should be able to navigate the internet using a browser and understand basic
online safety rules. Assessment strategy: Observation of students navigating a kid-friendly website.
• Digital Citizenship: Students should have a basic understanding of digital citizenship concepts such as online
etiquette and respect for others. Assessment strategy: Class discussion or written reflection on digital
citizenship.
• Technology Basics: Students should have a basic understanding of technology basics such as logging in, using
a mouse, and basic keyboarding skills. Assessment strategy: Observation of students completing a basic
technology task.

1.CS.2/3.NI.2/3.NI.1– Students will be able to explore the functions of common hardware and software components of
computing systems. Students will be able to describe physical and digital security measures for protecting personal
information.
Learning Objective(s):
• In this lesson, students will be able to define basic computer terminology, identify potential online dangers, and
demonstrate an understanding of how to stay safe online.
• The lesson plan incorporates two technology solutions: a digital learning platform and a classroom
management tool. The classroom management tool will enable teacher to monitor student activity in real-time,
ensuring that students are using technology responsibly and staying on task

This lesson will evaluate students' understanding of digital literacy and online safety concepts. The following three
assessment methods will be used:
Digital Literacy Quiz: 10-question multiple-choice quiz that assesses students' understanding of basic computer
terminology, online safety rules, and best practices for responsible internet use.
• 8-10 correct answers: Exceeds expectations
• 5-7 correct answers: Meets expectations
• 0-4 correct answers: Needs improvement
Online Safety Poster: Students will create a poster that illustrates online safety rules and best practices. The poster will
be assessed on its content, creativity, and overall presentation.
• Content (40%): Accuracy and completeness of online safety rules and best practices
• Creativity (30%): Originality and effectiveness of the poster's design and message
• Presentation (30%): Clarity, organization, and overall appearance of the poster
Digital Citizenship Essay: Students will write a short essay on the importance of digital citizenship and how they can
promote it in their online interactions. The essay will be assessed on its content, organization, and writing quality.
• Content (40%): Depth and accuracy of understanding of digital citizenship concepts
• Organization (30%): Clarity, coherence, and logical flow of the essay
• Writing Quality (30%): Grammar, spelling, and overall writing style

This lesson help teacher to identify areas where students need additional support or enrichment. The following four
assessment strategies will be used, each with its own intervention method, and will be differentiated to meet the needs
of mixed ability learners:
• Class Discussions: The teacher will facilitate class discussions throughout the lesson to assess students'
understanding of digital literacy and online safety concepts.
Foundation: Students will be provided with a discussion guide and visual aids to support their participation.
Core: Students will participate in small group discussions, with access to a variety of digital tools and
resources.
• Online Quizzes: The teacher will administer online quizzes throughout the lesson to assess students'
understanding of specific concepts.
Foundation: Students will be provided with a quiz template and technical support.
Core: Students will complete the quizzes independently, with access to a digital dictionary for unfamiliar terms.
• Group Activities: The teacher will observe students during group activities to assess their ability to apply
digital literacy and online safety concepts.
Foundation: Students will be provided with a group activity template and visual aids to support their
participation.
Core: Students will work in pairs to complete the activity, with access to a variety of digital tools and resources.
• Self-Assessment: Students will complete self-assessment checklists throughout the lesson to reflect on their
own understanding of digital literacy and online safety concepts.
Foundation: Students will be provided with a self-assessment template and visual aids to support their
reflection.
Core: Students will complete the self-assessment independently, with access to a digital dictionary.
