Compare and Contrast Essay
It is impossible to have leadership without followership and vise versa. Two types of
these traits are servant leaders and yes person followers. A yes person is someone who does
not vocalize what they think; rather, they agree with everything their leader has to say
(Tanner, 2021). A servant leader “is servant first… It begins with the natural feeling that one
wants to serve, to serve first (What is Servant Leadership?).” Servant leaders and yes person
followers are different but also alike because of the way they work conjointly and
autonomously. This will make sense and support how servant leaders can turn yes persons
into an effective follower.
A servant leader and yes person both serve each other. Although the follower isn’t
helping the leader through constructive criticism, he/she is providing feedback by saying yes.
Servant leaders care about the success of the organization from the bottom up. They “lead
and follow with equal compassion (Coffman, 2016).” In lieu of this, this leader is promoting
and therefore serving this follower. By serving each other, they both exemplify duty and
respect. These specific types of leadership and followership are
alike but different.
Yes person followers do not always follow because they want to; they tend to follow
in this way because of someone or something. A servant leader is an option; they serve
because they have the willingness to do so. An individual will always give yes answers in an
environment they don’t feel comfortable to give criticism (Tanner, 2021). An example of this
