, PREGNANCY ANATOMY
●Cervix:
○Chadwicks: Blue/violet color of cervix
○Goodells: Softening of cervix
○Mucus Plug: Prevents infection during pregnancy
●Cardiovascular:
○Increased BV & CO
○Physiologic anemia results from increased plasma & dilution
of RBCs
○BP should not increase after 20 weeks = preeclampsia
○BP should decrease at 24 - 32 weeks due to decreased
vascular resistance
○Supine position suppresses vena cava = hypotensive syndrome
○Systolic murmur is not abnormal
○↑ size of uterus 7 ↑ clotting factors results in ↑ r/o DVT,
especially in obese patients
●Respiratory:
○↑ r/o hyperventilation & respiratory alkalosis → have mother
breathe in paper bag

○Glaucoma may improve due to decreased intraocular pressure
