The philosophy of education provides guidelines that help people to reflect on
the meaning of education and the role of education in the formation and
development of individuals and the society. It is significant in these
discussions in the south African context, since the inequalities entrenched in
the period of colonialism and apartheid are still apparent in the South African
education system. Equity, access, social justice, agency and transformation
