Rules and regulations:
Staff to child ratio
- birth to 1 year: 1 adult per 4 children
- 1 year olds: 1 adult per 6
- 2 year olds: 1 adult per 11
- 3 year olds: 1 adult per 15
- 4 year olds: 1 adult per 20
- 5+ year olds: 1 adult per 25 Emergency procedures
- Valid first aid and CPR certificates on file
- Person on duty holds valid certificate
- First Aid Kit meets code
- Report all accidents to parents by using

- All documents must be maintained at the facility and available during hours
of operation for review by licensed authorities
Staff requirement
- Are bound by laws found in Chapter 402 of the Florida Statutes.
- Must adhere to Chapters 65C-20 or 65C-22 in the Florida Administrative
Code.
- Must take training as written in rule by the Florida Department of Children
and Families.
- Gain professional status through program accreditation and credentialing.
- Must follow a certain code of conduct
- Florida Statutes say they must be of good moral character and must see to
the emotional and physical well-being of the children in their care
Transportation
- Driver must hold valid driver’s license and physical

- Inspect vehicle
- # of people in care = # of seatbelts
- Staff to children ratio in vehicle
- Transportation log must be kept and verified by a second person
Medication
- Facilities do not have to dispense medication
- It must be in the original bottle
- Non-prescription give only with permission
- Stow out of reach of children
- Sheet- data/amount/person giving the medicine
Isolation of contagious child
- Must be supervised at all times
Guidelines
Napping;
- Children have a safe, clean, and comfortable sleeping area
- 18” minimum distance around individual napping spaces
Square footage
- Indoor space must have a minimum of 35 square feet of usable indoor floor
space for each
- Outdoor play area must have minimum 45 square ft of play for ½ the
facility
Bathroom requirements
- DCF requires that children have access to sanitary toilet facilities in
sufficient amount depending upon number of children
- Potty chairs not considered
- Soap not toxic
