Question 9.6

When conducting research or analyzing a case study there are plenty of ways to dissect
the given information to have a clear understanding on the problem and the options available as
solutions. Personal interview, telephone survey or self-administer survey are communication
approach typically used in a data collection design used to gather primary data. “Several factors
strongly influence our choice of the communication approach.”(Schindler, 2019) In order to
make an informed decision that best fits the type of research being conducted we can follow a
few steps that can help the research be a wholistic study.
“The first is the nature of the investigative question; that provides information that
observation cannot give away. The second is the characteristics of the sample case- specifically
whether the case can articulate his or her ideas, thoughts, and experiences. The third is the
amount of time needed in making a decision. Typically, because communication is faster than
observation this will give us a clear direction on the method that should be pursue. And the
fourth step is cost since some communication methods offer a lower cost per case. (Schindler,
2019) These factors are all in which we should consider before choosing the communication
approach.
A communication approach has many advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, we
much carefully calculate what is the purpose of the chosen method and how much information
do we want to gather. In a telephone survey several individuals are selected to be the sample of
a telephone interview by a trained interviewer. In a survey via personal interview the
individuals chosen to be apart of the sample are interviewed face to face also by a trained
interviewer. And in a self-administered survey a questionnaire can be sent via mobile device, it
