Experience with Theology Essay

When I think of the word Theology, I think about the study God’s word. I think about the
knowledge he provided about creation, the detailed rules he gave us for living, and the promises
and love he has bestowed upon man since the beginning of time. God’s word has been the
foundation of human living for centuries and it even transcends into non-believers' lives as well.
Things as simple as, “do not steal,”, “do not murder,” or “be faithful to your spouse” are all
principles that stem from the God. I often think about how Gods’ word is so powerful that it
affects people to this day that may have never read His word before. If His word can affect those
who have never read it, imagine the affect it has on those who study it. Theology provides
Christians a deeper, more personal connection with God’s word. Instead of just reading it, we
are able to dissect it and truly connect with it. Theology is a pathway to understanding
everything God is trying to convey to us through the Bible, which can create a stronger
relationship with God himself. As a Christian, I consider theology an important tool in my faith.
I have few real experiences with theology in the past. By that, I mean I was exposed to it,
but never seemed to appreciate it or take it seriously. I grew up going to church here and there, so
I was never a consistent Christian. Because of my family, I knew I was supposed to love God and
that he loved me, but I didn’t ever know why. As I got older, I attended Wednesday night youth
group meetings at my church, and we would dissect Gods’ word in detail. This was my first true
introduction to theology. I began to understand more and more why God was so loved and why I
should follow His word. However, I didn’t stay committed to studying it. It wasn’t until God
spoke to me himself last year and led me to read his word that I began to dive into theology
