Clinical Manifestation
Mr. C is a young, single man aged 32 years who has been confirmed to be obese. He has
visited the outpatient center to seek advice regarding bariatric surgery. His situation is not good
given that within the last two or three years, he has gained 100 pounds. Medical evaluations
show that Mr. C is not suffering from metabolic diseases. However, evidence shows that an
obese person is at a very high risk of suffering from type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and coronary
heart disease (Horton, 2009). Mr C, who have been obese since childhood has a high likelihood
of suffering from these conditions. The other issue with Mr. C is that he is suffering from
hypertension and sleep apnea, which is the reason why he has been restricting dietary sodium.
With his blood pressure being high, Mr. C has a high likelihood of suffering from uncontrolled
hypertension. Within the last six months, Mr. C has reported swollen ankles, an increase in
shortness of breath, and pruritus.
When an individual has high BMI and fasting blood sugar level, it is an indication of
diabetes, which is the case for Mr. C. The creatinine levels of 1.8 mg/dl, HDL of 30 mg/dl, and
cholesterol level of 250 ml/dl is an indication of hyperlipidemia. For this reason, Mr. C is
suffering from diabetes, sleeping apnea, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes, all of which
are chronic conditions.
