Category C: Either studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the fetus and there are NO controlled studies on women. Category D: Is confirmation of human fetal risk but may be acceptable despite the risk Ex: Life threatening situation Category X: Animal and human studies have shown fetus abnormalities *Drugs are contraindicated in women who are or may become pregnant.
