Biographical Data
Patient is a 45-year old female that presents with sudden left medial knee pain after
playing kickball with her 4th grade class yesterday. Patient is self-reporting, A&O x3, and is a
reliable source of information. Reports no significant medical, surgical, or family history.
Patient has had no joint problems in the past and jogs 3x a week with no issues. Reports that her
mother is obese & has recently started having knee pain, but no other joint issues in her family.
Patient denies smoking, alcohol use, or substance abuse.
Chief Complaint
“I was playing kickball yesterday with my 4th grade students when I was twisting to make
a kick and felt a sudden pain in my knee. My knee felt like it was giving out! It hurts to walk and
climb stairs so I decided to come see you.”
History of Present
Illness
Patient presents to clinical with a L knee injury due to playing kickball. She reports her
knee made a popping sound right when her pain started & the knee started swelling right away.
Feels like her knee locked right up when she made a twisting kick. Patient did not have any pain
during the night, but notes that her knee felt stiff when she woke up this morning and is hard to
bend. Denies fever and chills. Notes knee feels a little warm and looks red. She has been
elevating leg when she can and applying ice. She is taking Ibuprofen 2 tablets by mouth every 4
hours. No other medications noted.
