From the story:-
Answer these questions.
1. When did David’s lessons usually start and where?
Ans :- David’s lessons usually started after breakfast in the second-best parlour.
2. Who else used to be present in the room?
Ans:- David’s mother, Clara, Mr Murdstone and Miss Murdstone would also be
present in the room.
3. Which unnecessary facts did David get engrossed with when he stumbled
over his lessons?
Ans:- David would get distracted with unnecessary facts like the number of yards
of net in Miss Murdstone’s cap and the price of Mr. Murdstone’s dressing gown.
4. How does David’s mother try to help him and and what is the effect of it on
the others?
Ans:- David’s mother would try to help by giving him cues through the motion of
her lips. Miss Murdstone would instantly warn David’s mother sternly against
helping him. Mr. Murdstone would get out of his chair and either throw a book at
David or box his ears and turn him out of the room.
5. What was the opinion of the Murdstones with respect to children in
general?
Ans:- The Murdstones considered all children to be troublemakers and believed
that letting a child be in company of other children made them more of a nuisance.
