, MOTION
WHAT IS MOTION?
The position of an object changes with time is called motion.
What is rest?
The position of an object does not changes with time is called rest.
Motion is relative
DISTANCE- length of actual total path is covered called distance
DISPLACEMENT- shortest path from stating point to the ending point
along with direction
Q. can value of displacement be equal to distance travel by object?
ANS. YES! When an object travels in a straight line
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DISTANCE& DISPLACEMENT
Basis Distance Displacement
Definition Total length of the actual path travelled. Shortest straight-line distance from start to end point.
Type of Quantity Scalar quantity Vector quantity
Direction Does not have direction Has a specific direction
Value Always positive Can be positive, negative, or zero
Path Dependence Depends on the path taken Depends only on initial and final position
d →d (vector form)
Symbol
Example Walking 5 km around a park 2 km straight from start to endpoint
SPEED

Formula
Speed= distance/time
