, Lecture 15: Connecting Classrooms, Podcasts and More:

To Be Covered In This Lecture:

- Too Noisy - Webquest
- PODcasts - MangaHigh
- Teachertube - British Council Connecting Classrooms

What is the value of this lecture?

- The value is in you actually clicking on the links, looking around, and exploring the options.
- You have to start thinking about how you will use technology to aid your teaching.
- Be part of the solution.

Too Noisy:

- A Noise Level Meter built to help control the noise level
of groups of children.
- As the noise level in a classroom increases beyond an
acceptable level the noise level meter dynamically
indicates the level of noise, and the background
graphics within the app change to reflect the noise levels

Q - Register (or download/buy app)
Q - Need microphone
- Connect to pc/mac/tablet/interactive whiteboard etc.
Q - Can calibrate your sensitivity of your microphone
- Good for behaviour management in a primary school setting

A little bit about the app:

- The "Too Noisy App" has been designed to assist a teacher keep control of general noise levels in a
classroom using a visual stimulus.
- Teachers are able to control the sensitivity of the app by using the sensitivity slider within the app itself
so the app can be used for all types of lessons.
- The app can be run directly on the iPad/iPhone or displayed on the classroom multi-touch
panel/interactive whiteboard by using the screen mirroring functionality built into the the Apple devices
(note this feature requires AppleTV or equivalent screen mirroring apps/devices).
- The Too Noisy app is available on the iPhone, iPad, Android devices and Online! (via a web browser)

- Too Noisy (Lite version) = free
- Too Noisy (Pro version) = pay for

How It Works:

- It uses the microphone on the iPad to pick up the ambiance of the room
- Because it’s on an iPad, you can put that iPad anywhere in the room while still working by the board
- The dial goes up if you speak louder and it goes down if you speak softer
- You can change the sensitivity levels of that by adjusting the cogs
- Different background themes for different age ranges and different dial themes too
- Star Awards (only with paid for version) = allows you to award/reward the class with stars and you can
set a timer and decide whether you want to give them a star for (for example) every 5 minutes that they
are quiet and it’s an easy way to tell if the children are being quiet
