Summary Peptic ulcer
Peptic ulcer is a break in the mucosa of the stomach or duodenum caused mainly by Helicobacter pylori infection, NSAID use, and excess acid. It presents with burning epigastric pain, nausea, and sometimes bleeding or perforation. Diagnosis is by endoscopy, and treatment includes proton pump inhibitors and eradication of H. pylori.
