The late republic era contributed to some of the unrest periods Rome has ever experienced. Political
instability and social unrest were the major negative effects of the late republic era. Rome advanced its
government from tyranny to republic in later times a monarchy or autocratic one. The transition from a
republic to autocracy was a violent event that took many roman lives. The ruling body during the
republic era was aristocratic and public offices were limited to only these aristocratic and wealthy class.
These wealthy class only passed rules in their own favor in expense of the public. The poor became
poorer, and debtors increased, and many public lands were for this small aristocratic group. Two

brothers Tiberius and Sempronius Gracchus arose and tried to settle the increasing division and enmity

between the rich and the poor, these brothers were elected tribunes and manipulated the public

assembly to support their opinions. They reclaimed public lands and placed the landless poor back on

land and even tried to extend Roman citizenship to the Italians (Morey, 1901). The senate was forced to
comply because the public assembly backed and voted for their opinion. The aristocratic class not being

Three generals, Pompeius Magnus, Licinius Crassus, and Julius Caesar formed a triumvirate and divided
ar stu
the Roman conquests between themselves on agreed terms. Magnus failed to hold the end of the
agreement and after the death of Crassus in a war he fought against the Parthians, Julius Caesar was
is
forced to war against Magnus who failed to elect Caesar a consul, which was the agreement. Caesar
Th
fought a dread civil war against another Roman army which was that of Magnus. There were several
sh
Roman lives claimed and who ever ascended the consulship was not safe and even Caesar himself was
assassinated.
