-includes two broad categories of research
1. descriptive
2. ex-post facto
Descriptive Research - answeraims to describe situations, experiences and phenomena
as they exist
Ex-post facto or correlational research - answerexamines relationships among variables
Cross Sectional - answerstudy examining a population with similar attribute but differ in
one specific variable at one point in time
ex: studying asthma in different age groups
Cohort - answerstudy comparing a particular outcome in groups of individuals who are
alike in many ways but differ by one characteristic
ex: studying lung cancer in female nurses who smoke compared to those who do not
smoke
Longitudinal - answerstudy involving taking multiple measures of a group/population
over an extended period of time to find relationships between variables
Experimental Research - answerexperimental manipulation of variables utilizing
randomization and a control group to test the effects of an intervention or experiment
