Pre briefing question 1 - Correct Answer ✔✔ My primary concern would be identifying
whether the patient and the others involved are safe and okay. Then, his mental status
needs to be assessed to see if the patient is experiencing a schizophrenic episode or
whether his actions have been caused by drug, alcohol, substance use, or not adhering
to his medication regimen. A physical and mental status examination needs to be done
along with getting information on the patient's medication regimen, seeing if he has
been adhering to them, and assessing his psychiatric history. The interventions to put in
place would be to have safety and fall precautions set, a psychiatric evaluation, and
address the immediate physical needs of the patient.
Pre Briefing Question 2 - Correct Answer ✔✔ I would anticipate that the patient is
prescribed some 2nd generation antipsychotics along side mood stabilizers and Anti-
Anxiety meds. These medications would help decrease his hallucination and positive
negative symptoms while helping to stabilize his mood swings and bouts of anxiety that
accompany the hallucination and psychosis.
Pre brief Question 3 - Correct Answer ✔✔ I would anticipate that the HCP may
prescribe the patient Lithium or Valproate (mood stabilizers), 1st / 2nd Generation
antipsychotics, and Benzodiazepine. The antipsychotics help with hallucinations, and
mood stabilizers aid with mood instability. With Benzo, it's for short term agitation and
anxiety. If the patient has EPS from 1st Gen antipsychotics, we can also give
anticholinergics to help minimize those symptoms. Finally, if any issues involve
insomnia, sleeping aids would help, like Zolpidem.
Pre brief 4 - Correct Answer ✔✔ For discharge, the same drug classes that he has
been administered during his hospitalization would be a good guess. A 2nd gen is an
antipsychotic with a mood stabilizer, and a non-benzodiazepine would help with
minimizing symptoms, insomnia and stabilizing the mood.
