, Standards of the Maricopa Nursing STANDARDS:
The nursing faculty believes that standards of professional conduct are an
inherent part of professional socialization and expect students enrolled in the
nursing program to adhere to the standards. All students are expected to
follow the “Standards of Professional Conduct” described in the
MaricopaNursing Student Handbook (https://www.maricopa.edu/degrees-
certificates/healthcare-education/maricopa-nursing). Unsafe or unethical
clinical conduct will not be tolerated and may result in dismissal from the
program according to guidelines in the Nursing Program Student Handbook
and/or College Catalog.
Dress Code
The dress code for the clinical setting (including clinical skills laboratory and
simulation rotation) is the school uniform. Refer to MaricopaNursing Student
Handbook 2022 - 2023 for professional appearance guidelines. Students must
be in uniform every date that they are in the clinical skills laboratory,
simulations, or attending a clinical rotation.
Academic Protocol
Adult behavior and professional demeanor are always expected, in all settings.
Dishonesty will not be tolerated. This includes cheating on tests, copying
partial or full assignments, plagiarizing from published sources, or allowing
others to copy from you. All assignments are individual work unless specifically
noted by the instructor to be a group assignment. Disciplinary action will be
taken and may include permanent dismissal from the nursing program.
Disruptive Behavior
Disruptive behavior includes any activity that interferes with or creates a
negative or dangerous learning environment. This includes typing
inappropriate dialogue in “chat”, talking, or chatting in side-conversations
during class or laboratory and any behaviors disrupting the learning of other
students.
Cell phones must not be audible while in class and are not permitted in the
nursing practice laboratory or clinical setting. Surfing the web, or receiving,
reading, or sending text messages while in class, clinical laboratory, or the
clinical agency is not permitted. Wait for an authorized break in class,
laboratory, or the clinical agency to make or return texts and calls. Abuse of
this policy will result in disciplinary action and a written student learning
contract.
